Event Description:
The College of Agriculture at Purdue University has an extraordinary educational opportunity for High School students through the World Food Prize (WFP) Youth Institute at Purdue University.  Purdue has developed a special connection with the World Food Prize Foundation because of our two World Food Prize Laureates: Phil Nelson in 2007 and Gebisa Ejeta in 2009. Participants will have the opportunity to come to Purdue on April 27-28, 2017, free for the student and teacher.
About the Program:
    1. Indiana students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate along with their teacher/mentor in the World Food Prize (WFP) Youth Institute at Purdue by completing a research paper on food security in a developing country. Schools or 4-H Counties are each limited to five students. More information can be found on this site:
    2. The research paper requirements will meet many of Indiana’s education standards including the core literacy standard. Click here for paper instructions.
    3. The students and mentors will be invited to Purdue on April 27-28, 2016 (Thursday evening and all day Friday).  The WFP Youth Institute at Purdue is FREE to students and teachers/mentors! While at Purdue students will present their research papers with a 3 minute presentation. Students will also meet experts, hear from one or both of Purdue’s World Food Prize Laureates and learn about how Purdue is fighting world hunger.
    4. Top students will be chosen as Indiana Delegates and will be invited to attend the WFP Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa in October 2017. High School Seniors are welcome to participate in the Purdue Youth Institute but will not be eligible for the Global Youth Institute because it takes place in the next school year.
    5. Please pre-register if you plan to participate. This pre-registration helps us plan a great event for everyone! Pre-Registration Link:
    6. Student papers and final registration due by Monday, March 24, 2017.
Both the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute and the Purdue Institute are fantastic and potentially life changing experiences meant to inspire the next generation of problem solvers to end world hunger.
Please consider mentoring one student, a few students or an entire class through the process of researching factors in food security for an average family in a developing country. This process is extremely educational and may lead to a transformational experience for students.
More information is available on our website: Please let us know if you have any questions. The Purdue registration deadline will be February 27th and the paper submission deadline will be on March 24th. We hope to see you in April!!
