Workshop Description:

Attention Educators:

The Council for Economic Education, NY, is pleased to offer professional development webinars for teachers nationwide. The webinars cover multiple topics on how to integrate personal finance and economics in the classroom and create a fun learning experience for your students.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Lorax, and A Wrinkle in Time are all award-winning books that have been turned into movies. This webinar uses the books’ themes and characters to teach lessons and activities that reinforce concepts such as scarcity, productive resources, markets, choices, goods and services, and opportunity cost. Session objectives include a quick review of economic concepts, the rational for using motion pictures as motivators, a book synopsis of featured piece of literature the movie is based on, and examination of showcased lessons. Presented lessons are stand-alone, can be taught in one class period, and are not dependent on the student reading the book or seeing the movie.

Presenter: Lynn Stover, James Madison University

When you attend the webinar(s), you will leave with relevant lessons, resources and tools that can be implemented the next day. If you are interested, but cannot attend the live webinar, please register to get access to the archived version. You must attend a live webinar or listen to a recorded webinar for at least 45 minutes in order to receive a certificate.
